why are we poor?

Have you ever asked yourself that question?  Asked why, in a world full of plenty, why am I struggling to get by?  If you have ever wondered why you can’t seem to break out of poverty, why some people have everything and other people have nothing, and why no matter what governments do it only seems to get worse, then this website is for you.

The aim of this website is to answer this question by identifying the real reasons behind poverty, without pussyfooting about or slipping in to conspiracy theories.  You can’t fix the problem until you can name the problem!

We are writing these pieces because of the dishonesty in English politics.  Most of this stuff isn’t written down anywhere easy to find, and isn’t explained to anyone unless you’re doing an oxbridge degree in “politics, philosophy, and economics”.  But it’s important knowledge.  Without it, you’re powerless to know who to vote for, whether to even bother voting, or why they are doing what they are doing.

Who we are: we are a group of pissed off and low-paid workers, sick of people’s lack of information, depressed by the half-truths and dishonest opinions passed off as facts that we see on the tv and in the papers.  We have all spent twenty or thirty years trying various methods of combating the problems faced by poor people, and we hope to be able to pass on some of our experience so you won’t make the same mistakes we did.  We are not party political – that means that we do not represent or endorse any particular party whether that party is one of the big ones or one of the small ones.  We want you to know the facts, and from those facts you can assess the truth behind party politics and make your own decisions.

You are welcome to distribute, quote, or do whatever you like with this stuff.  You should credit us here if you do.  If you want to ask any questions, suggest a topic to write about, or have any issues with anything written here, send us an email at whyarewepoor AT gmail.com.  How we respond will depend on what we deem appropriate and most useful to the readership as a whole.

If you think we’ve got something wrong, email us with your reasons and references and we’ll make changes if we agree.  All comments at the bottom of the page will be vetted, fair critique is cool, you’re allowed to disagree, but we want to avoid the “don’t read the comments” feeling.  There is no such thing as free speech!
